The new generation of phones
The zero generation of cellphones were introduced in 1945 and were so different from the phones we know today. The first approved mobile phones which used the same technology as we know today were produced by Motorola in 1983. These had to be carried over the shoulder and were the size of a car battery.
From this REALLY bulky cellphones, we now have mobiles the size of a credit card. Mobile technology has evolved so much in the span of only 20 years, the mobile phone has gone from being rare, expensive equipment of the business elite to a pervasive, low-cost personal item.
In many countries, mobile phones outnumber land lines. In the United States, about 50% of children have their own cellphones. In many homes, mobile phones have replaced land lines, and very few countries prohibit or restrict the use of cell phones. The SMS feature has also paved way for the texting subculture.
Getting a mobile for sending SMS or calling is no longer enough. Today, cellphones are already touch screen such as the Apple-produced iPhone. At the very least, mobiles should allow you to send and receive emails such as the Blackberry Phone. Other phones have integrated camera and radio. High-end phones have high computing ability and works like mini-computers allowing you to do your presentations and reports while on the go. Newest technology includes built in TV and wifi internet.
With the highly mobile society we have today, mobile phones have provided the key means of communication. You can now call your family from a remote location where it is impossible to get a land line. You can even use your cellphone while abroad. Of course you need a multi-band, unlocked cellphone so you can use the affiliate network in that country.
